What's in a Name?

Actually, although my name is Karen, this blog may not really be all about fashion, and karensfashiontipoftheday may not happen every day.  This will be a writing journey, in which I share my own learnings and experiences about appearance, self-esteem, health, society and attitude, with some clothing and accessories mixed in, in the hope that you find something useful or amusing.

There's a children's book, "The Philharmonic Gets Dressed," by Karla Kuskin (HarperCollins Pub).  In this book, all the members of the orchestra are getting out of the bath, putting on their underwear, clothes, socks and shoes, in the many variations of body types and clothing styles available to modern humans.  I always thought this book was unusual, and never understood the premise.  Is this like the old advice, when standing up to give a speech,to imagine the audience in their underwear so you won't have stage fright?  Or, are we embracing diversity?  Or, are we teaching young children how to get dressed, step by step?

As I started to prepare my first blog for the renewal of this website (started several years ago, and you can see some of my older writings in the archive), this book suddenly came to mind.  I sort of like the third explanation...how do we get dressed, step by step?  Why do we choose what we do?  Why do we own what we do?  How do we feel about how we dress, and look?  There are many other blogs where you can learn what's in style, and shop for recommended items, learn your style type and category, and your colors, and your body shape, from people with so much more expertise than I have to offer!  I am going to refer to some of those great bloggers and their websites from time to time, as they have helped me on my journey.  But here, we're going to bring it down to a much more organic level, based upon my own penchant for practicality.  How do you go from out of bed to out the door, wherever your day/night/week may take you?

As of this writing, there are no books to read, no tests to take, nothing to buy or pay for.  Just join me on this little blogging adventure.

We all have to get dressed every day anyway, so we might as well have some fun!

-Karen
