Girls Who Love Pearls: Featuring Nancy Scofield Germyn

We call her the Pearl Lady.  She calls us Girls who Love Pearls.  Nancy Scofield Germyn has many followers who enjoy her beautiful pearls and gemstones and the way she brings them to life with beautiful, wearable, artistic pieces.  Today’s post will highlight her beautiful jewelry, and how pearls and other jewels can add beauty to our lives and make a statement in our appearance.

Nancy’s jewelry journey began when she was living in China years ago, working in VIP Relations for the Shanghai Expo 2010.  As the Expo ended, she explored the markets, where beautiful pearls were sold.  There she befriended a woman named Lina, who soon became a source for pearls and semi-precious gems as Nancy’s jewelry design business began to blossom.  Says Nancy, “My love of pearls has taken me to the source of freshwater pearls, as I journey several times a year to go out to the locations to hand-pick my pearls to use in my necklaces, bracelets and earrings.  All my designs consist of semi-precious stones, including the beads…as well as the cut gemstones.  The pearls are natural fresh-water.” Her pieces use a lot of labradorite, moonstone, aquamarine, amethyst, citrine and black onyx.  Some pieces use sterling silver charms with the messages of friendship or good luck.

While the travel has come to a halt during the COVID-19 pandemic, there are still a lot of beautiful pieces in Nancy’s inventory.  One lovely aspect of her jewelry is the fact that 14kt gold-filled or sterling silver as well as other natural materials such as suede and leather are used.  Her ear wires are hand-made.

We met Nancy on one of her visits to Nashville, where she displayed her jewelry at the local York Gallery.  I have attended several of her shows at the gallery with my mother, Queenie Miller and my sister, Joyce Keller.  They recently came up with a way to honor and connect the women in our family, by purchasing some of Nancy's pearl bracelets with different color woven bands, for us all to wear while we are sheltering at home, as you can see in this collage made by my sister.

Jewelry is an accessory, often added after you get dressed and think, hmmm, I need to add a little something.  It can also be a starting piece for a whole outfit; if you want to wear those lovely amethyst beads, you could start with that and build an outfit of all black or all white to highlight the necklace.  Jewelry can also provide us with a sentimental feeling when we wear it and remember the giver, or a special event where we wore this piece.  Even if you are staying home day after day and week after week, please wear your jewels!  Celebrate your love of beauty,

You can find Nancy and her beautiful jewelry by friending her on Facebook, where she often posts specials.  Nancy’s message for my blog readers: “My love of pearls, and all things pearls, has carried my designs around the world in the form of necklaces, bracelets and earrings.  And I continue to design, selling during my gallery and home shows around the country as well as using FB as a selling resource.  Let’s be friends on Facebook!” Here are a few pictures of her beautiful pieces, as well as a necklace I just purchased as a gift to myself (and something to grab onto when I need to feel calm).

I hope you have enjoyed today’s post!  I hope to highlight other beautiful, fashionable, stylish women in the future.  If you would like to be featured, or want to recommend someone, please let me know!

Until then, we all have to get dressed every day anyway (or do we, during COVID-19? The answer is: YES!) so we may as well have a little fun!
